About
It’s the first of the month, and Victor Molina just got furloughed.
Desperate to buy himself time before his rent check gets cashed, he goes along with a coworker’s less-than-thought-out plan to con his landlord. Pretty soon, the ruthless mogul blackmails Victor into robbing a mysterious and lavish country estate. In less than a week, he's got to mastermind a daring heist, unravel a local real estate scheme, and somehow inspire confidence in his friends to get their help.
Shot on 16mm film over a humid summer in Charlottesville, VA, with a cast of first-time and seasoned performers, For the Taking is a rowdy and mischievous heist flick. Made in the mold of classic capers like Ocean’s Eleven and Rififi, but with the underdog spirit of indie staples like Clerks and Stranger Than Paradise, the film is a dynamic portrait of mid-20’s, mid-Covid life in a small town.
